deep tissue massage

September 25, 2008 at 6:38 a.m.

Yesterday was super busy at work again. With the economy in such a mess, I can't help but wonder how we're staying so busy.

The talk at the shop revolved around the recent city board meeting. The selectmen voted 3-2 to terminate our new city administrator. The president of the local NAACP threatened one of the board members (a black man) who voted to terminate the city administrator. It is a big mess. A power struggle. I fear for our city. Racial strife is raring its ugly head.

Some of the board members vote for what is right for the city as a whole, while a few have their own personal agenda. It is a sad thing to witness. I can feel the tension everywhere.

People are angry. Some claim they are dredging up the past and should just let it go. Well, I think history should teach us our errors. We have to learn from it or we end up reliving it over and over. Like right now.

One of my customers had just finished her training in massage therapy and had recently received her license. After I finished her hair color, cut and style, she offered to massage my neck and shoulders for me.

She had been there for some of the conversation regarding the city mess and knew I was tense. (Some of the language those older opinionated ladies used made me blush. For real.) She said she could tell that I "wore" my tension in my neck and shoulders. Funny, that. I always thought my neck and shoulders being rock hard was because I have my hands in the air practically all day long.

Let me tell you something. That girl is awesome! I was a puddle of goo when she finished. 15 minutes of deep tissue massage is better than ice cream, sex AND chocolate. I shit you not.

V1 laughed and said I looked "dreamy eyed". I felt dreamy too. I don't think I've ever been so relaxed. Maybe it was her voice. She was very soft spoken, a welcome change that day. She told me to breathe. Breathe deep. Blow out through my mouth. Get rid of the tension. Blow the tension out. Very soothing voice. Calm. Serene.

Then she kneaded and beat the crap out of my shoulders and neck. It felt wonderful. I could actually feel the tension leaving. She offered to trade out hair cuts for massages. I'm all for that. I scheduled her another appointment for next month and allowed an extra 20 minutes for the massage. She suggested that we do the massage in the break room so she wouldn't scare anyone. Ha! I told her to do it at my station so everyone could see how relaxed I get. It will surely help her build her clientele.

She's bringing me some business cards today to hand out. I can't wait to see her. I still feel relaxed this morning. I slept like a baby last night too.

I mentioned to Hubby that he should get her to massage him. He said he'd feel weird letting a woman massage him. I told him not to worry because he won't remember she's a woman when she does that deep tissue thing. He said he'd think about it.

I'm looking forward to next month, but I may call her sooner than that.
