Our slight kitchen remodel has evolved.
I think it's time to call in the professionals but Hubby says to relax, he can do this.
I knew when he hacksawed the water pipes to the sink off without first cutting off the water supply that things were not going to be all cupcakes and jelly beans.
He wanted to run all new water pipes under the sink. Why? Well, hell's bells, I don't know. Maybe because he watches too much DIY tv. He thinks everything can be done in a 30 minute episode.
Well, welcome to the real world, Hubby. I had to stand in line at the huge building supply with the LOWESt prices for well over 30 minutes. Why doesn't his DIY programs show that?
Anyway, so far we have removed the kitchen cabinets, taken the moulding off the chair rail, patched the sheetrock that came off when he took off the chair rail, sanded the walls smooth, stained the beaded board for the wainscoting, and taken out the entire kitchen floor because somehow 6 or 7 floor tiles cracked.
We have had a flood in the kitchen because DIY Hubby forgot to turn the water off before he sawed the pipes to the sink, replaced sheetrock that DIY Hubby knocked a huge hole in when removing floor tile, removed kitchen floor down to the subflooring because of flood, installed new plywood over subflooring and bought a new hot water heater which is still sitting in the living room keeping the kitchen cabinets company.
Last night DIY Hubby informed me that he was 'thinking about' installing hardwood flooring in the kitchen. "It looks easy enough", he said. I'm sure it does. Bet he can get it done in a 30 minute episode. He said something about a white pine floor. While they are beautiful, I had to remind him that pine is a very "soft" wood not conducive to kitchens at all. Now he's thinking about hickory or oak.
He's now on his own with this kitchen project. I give up. I'm playing gofer and cleaning up the messes he makes. He's living his dream, I guess. I've never seen him so excited about remodeling.
I guess if our current home sells before this kitchen is finished, we will be doing a lot of eating out. Heck, we might have to bathe out too, if he doesn't get the water pipes sorted out.
We've already had 3 couples look at our house. Two of them are really interested. Maybe we should keep this house and sell the one in the country. We could market it as having a self-cleaning kitchen. Ha!
It'll all work out. Somehow it always does.
