SB is really sick since he's started back on chemo. He's losing a lot of weight and is starting to look very skeletal. My guess is that he's down to about 100 pounds. It is truly shocking to see him look this way.
He barely eats because he says he can't hold anything down. He says he has a strong metallic taste in his mouth all the time. Everything tastes like he has a mouthful of pennies. He said he's had a good day if he can drink enough water to take all of his medicine.
I'm almost to the point of holding him down and pouring Ensure down his throat. (Is that legal?) I'm really worried about him. He is still on mega-tons of morphine for the pain. You'd think he would be goofy-acting, but he's not. He's depressed. Really depressed. He's taking medicine for that too.
He complains of brain fog. He says he goes into the kitchen and forgets why he's there. Ummm.... I do that too. Without morphine. I told him that maybe he caught my old lady disease. Heck, I didn't know it was contagious.
He's got at least one more chemo treatment before they'll schedule him for surgery. That is, if his blood count holds up. Sometimes his blood gets all wonky and they have to postpone his chemo treatments.
As it stands now, he's walking very little...mostly to the bathroom. When he does walk, he uses a walker. Most of the time, he's in a wheelchair or he's in bed. He is extremely weak. It takes him a full week to gear up for his doctor's appointment. Then it takes him another week or so to recuperate from that.
He gave up on reading or watching TV because his attention span is just not there anymore. He's been listening to cd's that I burned for him. He said the average length of a song is usually 3 minutes and that is the scope of his attention span right now.
One song at a time. Then he rests. Then another song. Then he rests. He doesn't have the energy to talk on the phone. He doesn't want visitors. He doesn't want anything.
Well, sorry, but I do. I want him to get better. I want him healed. I want my old SB back.
