Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Winds have been gusting at around 60-70 mph and are sustained at around 40 mph. The power has been going off and on all day and is expected to do more of the same until Mother Nature lays the smack down on Gustav.
It's been scary some of the time, but nothing like Katrina 3 years ago. When the wind makes that eerie howling noise and I hear the trees groaning and cracking, I almost climb inside myself.
Lots of trees are down. Lots of power lines are down. Homes are catching fire because of power lines arcing. Debris is everywhere.
But.
We are fine. Really, we are.
We have plenty of water and food. We have gas in our vehicles. We have flashlights and fresh batteries. We even have ice this time. But most importantly, we have each other and so far, we all are safe.
Hubby is safe and home with me until this storm passes. His mom is fine. I've talked to her several times today. She doesn't know how bad the wind is because the nurses shut her blinds and she can't see outside. Thank God.
We went to my parent's house earlier today. I was supposed to stay with them but since things are not nearly as bad as it was during Katrina, I headed home as soon as Hubby called to say he was off work until the storm passed.
Son is fine as long as he gets to play his frazzlin' video game. He either doesn't realize how serious this storm is or he's ignoring the situation. Ahhh, to be a kid.
Schools are closed tomorrow and Son is thrilled. I need to check on the shop but I'm not willing to risk it until the weather improves greatly.
Geeeeeeeez.
A huge tree just fell in the street and shook the entire house. Oh my gosh. I nearly pee'd my pants.
Anyway, just wanted to update to say we are all fine and we hope you are too.
