SB was supposed to have had colostomy surgery last week. It was cancelled because his surgeon's wife died suddenly. This is THE surgeon that does this kind of surgery. He was hoping that another surgeon could step in and go ahead with the surgery, but no such luck.
He went to his oncologist and they have decided to give him 3 more chemo treatments for the time being. He's had all the radiation treatments he can have.
He is on mega doses of morphine. He is also on a variety of other meds that he has no idea what they're for. He is getting depressed again with the setback of the postponed surgery.
I guess he feels like they're playing a game of "hurry up and wait" with him. Bless his heart.
Me and V1 had a pizza delivered to him for lunch yesterday. I'd talked to him earlier and he mentioned that he wished he had a frozen pizza to heat up. His mom has been buying microwave dinners for them all to eat. She's exhausted from all the traveling and rarely feels like cooking. SB doesn't have much of an appetite either. He said the meds leave him with a metallic taste in his mouth that is really disgusting so when he wants to eat, we try to make sure he gets whatever he's craving. So far, it's working out pretty good.
Mom-in-law is adjusting to the nursing home. When we visit her, we have to hunt her down. She's never in her room anymore unless she's talking on the phone. It's like playing geriatric hide-n-seek.
They have "music time" every morning. She really enjoys that. Someone will come in and play the piano or guitar and sing. A local retired doctor has a band that plays big band music every Wednesday morning. She calls it "rock" music because she gets to the room first to get the best rocking chair. Heh.
Every afternoon at 2:30 is coffee time. She really enjoys that. It helps offset the bad taste that her meds leave in her mouth. And according to her, helps to keep "things" working.
She has her nails painted every Monday. She mentioned that it was against her religion to do so but since her pastor has yet to show up, she's having her nails painted in protest. Don't you love this lady?
Today at 3:00 is a popcorn party. Tonight at 6:00 is bingo. The prize for bingo is a quarter a game. She won 50 cents last week. She is hoping to win another 50 cents tonight. Gambling is also against her religion, but like she said, she's protesting.
I feel like she's doing better since she's been at the nursing home. Her eyes are bright. She's laughing and animated. She seems to enjoy all the activities. A real improvement from just a month ago when I felt like she was giving up. That's a good thing.
My sis has an appointment with her attorney this morning. She found out over the weekend that her husband had moved to Arkansas. He let that slip out during a phone call. She'd called him about 3 weeks ago to let him know that his banker needed to talk to him. He returned her call this past weekend.
She fears he's gone to Arkansas to establish residence so he can get the divorce without paying child support or alimony. It doesn't matter as long as she gets sole custody of her son. We don't need his stinking money.
Besides, Miz Pete works for the Dept. of Human Services. She's already said she's gonna have his driver's license pulled if he doesn't start paying some kind of support. He's only given her a $100 Walmart gift card and $1.74 cash in the last year. She said the gift card is just that. It's a gift.
Hopefully, her lawyer can file some kind of abandonment papers and speed this divorce up.
That's all I got for today.
