Beginning Saturday, I will have wedding hair to do every weekend until the end of July. I have had requests for wedding hair on the last Saturday in July, but I'm taking that day off. I know, I'm bad.
Some of these weddings are huge. The wedding set for this Saturday has 9 bridesmaids, 2 maids/matrons of honor, 1 miniature bride(?), 2 flower girls, the bride, her mom, his mom and a grandmother. That's 18 hairdo's to get done before 2 p.m. We will start at 6 a.m. with the mothers and the grandmother. At 7:15 the bridesmaids, flower girls and the miniature bride will arrive and we'll do their hair. At 11:45 the bride and her maids/matrons will arrive and we'll get their hair done. The shop will be closed to all other customers because the bride rented our shop that day.
I give all brides the option of renting our shop for their wedding day. It's much more relaxed and we get our money up front whether they show up or not. They can get dressed, do their make-up, whatever they want as long as it's legal. Heh.
We have staggered the times for this one because there are so many in this wedding party. Things would get a little hairy if they all showed up at one time. (Heh)
I believe this one is going to be one of those Steel Magnolia weddings with the big, huge Texas up-do's. Believe it or not, it's easier for me to do an up-do than it is to fix someone's hair down for a wedding. I can hide a heckuva lot of hair in an up-do. (shhh...don't tell)
V1 doesn't like to do up-do's at all, but she doesn't mind rolling all that hair on the hot rollers for me. We work together almost flawlessly for weddings. She prepares them and I do the up-do part. By the time I finish with one, another has had the hot rollers in her hair long enough to start on that one. It's a good thing that we have 12 sets of hot rollers so we can rotate them like we do.
SB will be home for the weekend. He wants to come watch and offer his advice. I can't wait to see him. He loves weddings and all the frou-frou that goes with it. This should be just the medicine he needs to cheer him up. He was bubbling over when I told him about Kristi's wedding and how many people were in it. He even said that he can sit and do their make-up and tiaras for them.
I told him I didn't want him to lift a finger. He needs to save his energy for healing. He laughed and said "we'll see about that". He'll win. I know it. I can't help but worry about him though.
