The Scream

Finally. The last week of school. I think I might possibly pee my pants. I am excited. Moreso than the kids, it appears.

Why are they NOT excited about summer vacation? It must be the juice they serve at school.

I went to the awards ceremony for 5th grade on Monday afternoon. About 12-15 parents bothered to show up. I brought a cheering section with me. My parents, hubby, sis and her son and a few friends were with me.

Son raked in the awards! He got the Math, Science, Language Arts, Reading and Social Studies awards. He got an award for QUEST. He also garnered a trophy for National Merit Scholar.

My little nephew (he'll turn 3 on June 9) was giggling and clapping so hard for Son. Everytime Son would go onstage to get his award, my nephew would yell "That's my BEST friend!".

The principal got tickled. She told my nephew to study hard and read!, read!, read! and he would be on that stage in a few more years.

We also got to view the QUEST art project again. The kids chose an artist and recreated one of their works.

Here is son's interpretation of Edvard Munch's "The Scream".

I thought what a strange and eerie thing for him to paint...until I saw the other art. Basically, everything else was abstract so Son decided to do something totally different to set his painting apart from the others. (I love abstract!)

The good news is they are auctioning the paintings off to raise money for QUEST. I have my eye on several paintings (including Son's). I'll send in my bid for those paintings tomorrow and hope I win at least one.

Tomorrow is Son's class party and Friday is Field Day. He hasn't had homework this week (whew!) but has continued to have busy work at school.

We are going on a short vacation the first week in June. Camping. In a cabin. No tent, thank goodness. No room service, no satellite TV, no video games, no pool or spa. Just a small cottage in the woods on a lake.

Of course, Hubby has to take his boat so he can fish the whole time. Son said he's taking his iPod and his PSP, his skateboard, his bike and the other things a 11 year old boy canNOT live without. Me? I'm taking a bag of books, sunglasses, sunblocker, skeeter spray and a lounge chair...and groceries in case the fish aren't biting.
