I have a migraine. It woke me up out of a sound sleep. Pounding, pounding, pounding.
I experienced my first migraine headache when I was 10 years old. I remember thinking "this is it--my brain is going to explode and it's going to make a huge mess". Notice how I wasn't scared of dying? I was worried about the mess that someone else would have to clean up.
Over the years I have been prescribed many different medications, none of which worked for very long. The side effects are not worth it. I hate those "after migraine" headaches. They feel just like a hangover. Ugggh.
I tried that "Head On" stuff that I saw on TV. I know, the tv commercials are dorky but, what the heck? I'll try anything to get rid of a migraine.
Here's the scoop on that. It's CHAPSTICK. Actually, it's IcyHot scented chapstick that you rub on your forehead. I'm not fond of putting chapstick on my forehead, especially when it reeks of IcyHot. To be quite honest, I think it made my headaches worse. Oh, and my bangs stuck to my forehead. Just plain nasty feeling.
Just recently, I decided to take Excedrin Extra-Strength. It works. It has the exact same ingredients as the Excedrin Migraine formula but costs a little less. Go figure.
The caffeine helps me stay focused. And it's a lot easier to to pop in a convenience store and buy it vs. sitting in a doctor's office for hours on end feeling like a jonesing addict waiting for a fix. My doctor is fine with me taking excedrin as long as I don't overdo it. Usually one dose will quiet the headache enough so that I can deal with it.
So after taking 2 excedrin and a nice hot cuppa coffee, I'm feeling better. The nausea is almost gone. The headache is easing up. I have taken my sunglasses off for the time being. I can now stand to hear myself breathe.
This day is looking up.
